About the Artist

Elizabeth Haluska-Rausch, PhD

I have spent most of my life in Texas, with brief sojourns elsewhere.  I was educated at Southern Methodist University (BA English and History), and Harvard University (PhD History). I have loved drawing and painting as long as I can remember. As an elementary student one of my most precious possessions was a tin of paints my parents gave me for Christmas one year with more than twenty colors. During High School, I received formal training under the talented Pam Skinner whose artwork will always adorn my home.  My parents did not approve of a career in art, so I chose the sensible alternative of Medieval History.  I loved every minute of it, and painting became a hobby. I did my doctoral research in the south of France and you will see more than one cityscape from the region. I never travel without my paints.

Over the last years an unexpected concatenation of events has given me the opportunity to pursue painting more seriously. I have participated in two juried shows and look forward to more. I hope you enjoy the results. I have two grown talented daughters with at least a passing interest in the arts. I currently live in the Austin area at the edge of the Texas Hill Country with a couple of cats and a large flower garden.

About the logo

When I married in 1990 I chose to hyphenate my name.  When I attempted to order stationery I discovered that locally there was nothing in place to accommodate my choice. I designed a monogram based on an art nouveau font that I have been using ever since.
